Temperament Testing
Temperament tests are offered periodically around the country by
American Temperament Test Society (ATTS). Handlers and dogs
walk through a course where various events happen to test the
stability of the dog's temperament. These might include having the
dog walk over different surfaces, opening an umbrella suddenly
near the dog, and having the dog and handler approached by both
friendly and unfriendly "strangers." In each situation the dog's initial
reaction and recovery time are noted by the judges. The ATTS offers
the "TT" title for successful completion of the course.

A TT title indicates that a dog is a stable, well-behaved individual.
Many animal therapy groups require that dogs gain  temperament
titles before they may become therapy animals.

The ATTS will test any purebred dogs and spayed/neutered mixed
breeds 18 months of age or older. No prior training is needed to
take this test.
